Woolloongabba garden

Date: November 2016
Location: Woolloongabba, Brisbane
Client: Private
Category: Design & build
Garden style: Tropical

We were approached to design and build a garden around this beautiful old Queenslander in Woolloongabba that tied in with an already existing tropical feeling around the pool area and provided privacy at the front.  The site was very tired but was an exciting clean slate.

Our approach

There were existing Himalayan sand stone tiles that rose from the street to the front door.  We matched these tiles and ran a path around the house.  We used straight lines to give a sense of length to the yard with a circular meeting point underneath a gorgeous existing Frangipani to slow the pace down and enjoy the garden from.

The garden has a drip irrigation system for the main watering and a spray system that comes on for a minute to create the humidity for the tropical plantings. It is thickly planted out to create screening and a tropical jungle feeling that envelopes the house.

Finally the lighting placement allows the landscape to take on another perspective and creates a beautiful night time entry to the entertainment area.

We maintain this garden 4 times a year to prune, compost, mulch and fertilise to keep it looking at its best.  The thick plantings naturally keep down competing weeds and therefore maintenance to a minimum.
