Ascot garden

Ascot design and build

Date: September 2014
Location: Ascot, Brisbane
Client: Private
Category: Design & build
Garden style: Wild perennial

We were approached to design and build this garden in Ascot.  The site was relatively flat, east facing and experienced a lot of shade due to some advanced trees in the in corners of the yard, especially in Winter.  They have an apartment block over the back fence that needed screening, they have grandchildren that utilise the garden and are a large influence for the change and the garden would regularly be viewed from the second story deck so it had to look good from above and on the same level. They had a few shrubs that they wanted to include and we built the garden around that.

Our approach

We worked around the Azaleas they wanted and created a flowing, wild, perennial border that looked good from deck, the grandchildren could pick the flowers from it and enjoy the life that it brought to the garden.  We placed large bush rocks for the kids to interact with that also broke up the brick edging.  In the dark corners we put some King ferns which will eventually create large striking plants in the corners and under planted them with plants that required lower light.

Screening was created with advanced Ivory curl trees that blended with the existing Ivory curls.

This garden has irrigation and we tend to it twice a year to give it a hard prune, fertilise, compost and mulch it.
